Description

The first volume includes a first general part, in which, in addition to an essential glossary, general knowledge about the fungal world, their growth and reproduction, systematics, a visual description of general morpho-chromatic characters (by means of well-drawn tables) and a brief review of the most important microscopic characters with a list of the most commonly used chemical reagents in mycology are summarised. The introductory part closes with a list of growth habitats (alpine and subalpine zones, hilly and lowland forests, etc.), a section on mycotoxicology and an excellent orientation key to the genera considered in the volume, for an overall total of no less than 118 pages accompanied by splendid photographs (clearly visible despite their small size). The next 500 pages illustrate as many fungal species with very clear and comprehensive descriptions and drawings of the salient microscopic details. The book closes with an index by genus and species and a profile of the authors.
